My Daughter the Soldier

Appropriately enough, with today being Memorial Day here in the US, my oldest daughter is leaving today to go to Basic Training. She enlisted in the US Army National Guard in August of 2006 and has been attending monthly drills since then awaiting her time to ship out for training.

She is leaving home within the hour to be taken to the processing station approximately 60 miles away and will fly out early tomorrow morning to go to her assigned training facility. Basic training will take approximately 9 weeks. I am, needless to say, very proud of her. Proud in all she does, but especially proud that she is taking this step knowing the situation that our country is faced with regarding all the uncertainty facing us in the Middle East.

As her mother I am fearful everyday that she will be one of the selected people who actually get sent to the Middle East and also fearful that she might not return. I have and am now placing her safety in God's hands.

God Bless the USA and all of those who serve in her military!!
